Other Characters Played: None
Character Name: Anghel Higure (Originally Yoshio Akagi)
Canon: Hatoful Boyfriend
Canon Background: Here.
AU Background: There was once an angel of God who fell from grace into the pits of hell, Judecca. Upon finding himself in such a place, he lost himself to his rage, becoming a being of destruction. When another came to retrieve him, she found him beyond saving. This person, his beloved Edel Blau, took it upon herself to drive the holy spear Saekro'm through him and then seal him away in a cage of ice.
It was there he remained for a long while, slowly regaining his sense. Eventually, he had enough strength to escape hell itself, fleeing to the surface once more. With demons on his tail (to say nothing of the one residing in his heart), he thought to hide himself among the beastmen, effectively reincarnating himself as one of their kin.*
(*This may have happened, or it may simply be the product of Anghel’s imagination and/or hallucinations. It’s hard to tell sometimes.)
And so a child was born to a family of winged folk. They called him Yoshio, and marveled at his strange appearance – for you see, this child bore a distinct mark over his heart that resembled a bloodstain from a mortal wound.
As he grew up he began to recall vivid memories of his past life. At first he was satisfied with playing out what he thought were simply adventurous dreams in the games of let’s pretend that were so common with the children. However, it soon became apparent to him the true nature of these visions, and he began to train himself more seriously as he realized what exactly he was, and the importance of the mark on his breast. He eventually left home to join the Sacred Order of Holy Knights in order to atone for his past sins as well as keep guard against the Calamitous Sorcerer Wallenstein should he show his face.*
(*Again, it is unknown of Wallenstein truly exists or if it is a figment of his imagination).
Personality: First and foremost, Anghel is noted by others to be a megalomaniac. He suffers from vivid hallucinations due to his own pheromones, which not only make his thoughts appear real, but also cause others to join him in this belief so long as they are physically near him and have no particular resistance against it. This is the best explanation for why he believes he is in fact a fallen angel who escaped from Judecca, etc. So firmly rooted are these fantasies, he is often frustrated by others who demand regular explanations. Indeed, it can take some wheedling to get him to refer to places and things by their regular names instead of the grandiose titles he comes up with.
However, he is by no means lost in these fantasies. He is actually quite intelligent and observant. If there is any danger nearby, he will most certainly take note and warn those around him of it. Unfortunately, due to the aforementioned titles, people often have no idea what exactly it is he is trying to warn them of, rendering his efforts useless. For example, in the original game he continually refers to the infirmary as a “Den of Evil”, a place where “Demon Spores” gather. In a later route, he follows more of these “Demon Spores” to what used to be the entrance to an underground medical facility. As it turns out, both places were in fact being used to develop a horrific virus meant to destroy humanity. He’s got a good sense for discovering these things, he just never properly articulates it in a way most would understand.
Unfortunately, he has a reckless streak as well. While he is careful to warn people of even the slightest danger (he once makes a point to warn a girl of the sharpness of Saekro’m, his nickname for his mapping pen) he is quick to try to do battle with it, which can be problematic when one is facing a mad scientist of all people. Between the protagonist and a bird who happens to be attending school for the express purpose of spying on the evil doctor, they do manage to keep Anghel from trying to run into the infirmary, but answering incorrectly on his route or simply not taking it shows a very different result: his ID is found on the ground and he has been declared missing as of two months prior to the discovery of the card. And given the food in the cafeteria and quill pens match up with the DNA of missing students, it’s not difficult to figure out what might have happened to him.
In many ways, he is still an awkward teenager. He doesn’t really know how to deal with social situations, from simple festivals to romantic feelings. It’s during these times that he is apt to make excuses involving yet more of those made up names and the need to remove them for the safety of all, mostly so he can escape the situation. The same goes for tedious chores, should there be someone nearby who he thinks will accept the excuse and take over for him. This does nothing to add to the credibility of the times when he is referring to an actual threat.
He can also be needlessly dramatic, mostly because of the megalomania. He isn’t just a fallen angel, he is a fallen angel who is constantly suffering from the pain of his crimson breast, because he has a powerful demon in him you see, and it’s all very agonizing and he is not worthy of nice things and people should stay away from him for their safety. People who accept him despite this, even just by putting up with his antics, are quicker to gain his trust. While he will still remind them of the danger of being with him, he does genuinely appreciate it.
There are also times when he will shift to a darker personality that is linked to his demonic possession. If triggered, he has a tendency to give an ominous laugh and perhaps utter a word or two, but it is quickly stopped by Anghel’s efforts to reclaim his own body. These are often preceded by his a claim that his chest hurts more than usual, and while he is usually careful to leave the area before the darker personality can take over, there are still times when it manages to get through. Depending on the situation, this may become more prevalent through the course of the game.
And lastly… don’t call him by his true name. It will reduce him to a screaming ball in the corner of the room. It’s just… not a good idea. Not a good idea at all.
Combat Style: Anghel fights with a broadsword, delivering powerful attacks at a quicker speed than one might expect of someone wielding a two-handed blade. He has a number of special attacks which call upon magic to create even deadlier moves: Dark Void Shockwave, Blood Lotus Cremation, Crimson Seraph Chain, and Megido Nova Circumversio. Expect him to use his wings if he feels being in the air will give him the advantage.
Kingdom or Faction: Sacred Order of Holy Knights.
Primary Role: Commander.
Soldier or Siege Company: Guardians of the Blue Sky. A group of men who have somehow grown accustomed to their commander giving them vague orders before disappearing to do his own thing, the Guardians often find themselves making critical decisions on their own. Thankfully, the men themselves are rather good at adapting to the situation, and some are even able to decipher a bit of Anghel’s ramblings. Among the Guardians, there is a rumor that they were named after someone their Commander holds dear.
Tarot Cards: Death, The Devil, The Chariot.
Title: Fallen Angel of Judecca
Artifacts: N/A
Setting Considerations: N/A
Notes: He gives off pheromones that cause not only his own hallucinations, but also ones that can effect others who are near, causing them to believe they are part of his grand story. I would like this to be the reason it’s so unclear whether his story of being a fallen angel is true or not, that way other characters from the series can easily be AU’d in (thus making it true) or not (thus making him simply the victim of vivid hallucinations). I have a permissions post for the pheromones, so that other players may decide whether or not they want their characters to be affected.
